What is the Basewent Stellenbosch Wine Tasting Masterclass about?
Two years ago, I had a vision of creating a one-stop Stellenbosch wine tasting masterclass event of the best boutique wines the “wine capital” has to offer. A completely new and unseen wine tasting experience was born. In order to match the experience, I have selected the Bartinney Tasting Shed as the location to host the masterclasses. Each of the Stellenbosch boutique wines have been carefully selected and made by various highly skilled Stellenbosch winemakers, produced with care, respect and devotion to nature. The wines are paired with flavoursome local cheese and meat options. You will be guided through exciting wine tales told by a wine expert with international winemaking and wine research experience. We welcome and can adapt this masterclass to both, wine beginners and highly skilled wine professionals. Our mission is to deliver a unique and enjoyable wine learning experience for everyone that joins us!
We want to introduce you to the RARE and SPECIAL South African wines and guide you through the insightful wine tastings in the heart of beautiful Cape winelands – Stellenbosch.
WINE FOR US IS MORE THAN A JOB,
IT’S THE LIFESTYLE.
”Coming from another beautiful country – Croatia, I have embraced South Africa as my second home! And there is indeed a lot to love about both of these countries: beautiful nature, amazing food, friendly people and surely great wines! ” Matija Lesković
Matija Lesković is a young and passionate wine expert, involved in wine for the past 9 years and founder of Basewent.
After finishing his Master’s degree in Viticulture and Oenology in Croatia and the WSET 3 course, he traveled the (wine) world learning and making wine in California (Napa Valley), Chile, Austria and even UK (for English sparkling wines). Finally, he has decided to anchor in the wine capital of South Africa – Stellenbosch – where he is currently doing his doctoral studies and research with a focus on wine aromas in white wines.
He was also a participant of the 2019 South African Wine Tasting Championship where he landed in 4th place among other Western Cape wine experts.
His other hobbies are sports (hiking, mountain biking, running and everything that keeps you in the beautiful South African nature), playing guitar and not surprisingly at all – doing wine tastings.
